Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has received orders totaling $16 million to supply the U.S. Department of Defense with a range of Falcon II® and Falcon III® tactical communication systems, including the AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radio. The DoD is acquiring the radios to provide ground forces with expanded interoperable voice and high-bandwidth data communications.
The field-proven AN/PRC-117G is a first-of-its-kind radio, delivering unprecedented situational awareness and command and control through wideband networking of the battlefield. The system delivers critical real-time information to warfighters on the move and their field commanders through a man-portable software-defined radio with significantly reduced size and weight. The Falcon III radio platform enables missions such as checkpoint and patrol biometrics, convoy tracking, route planning and fires de-confliction.
In addition, the DoD is also acquiring the Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C), the most widely fielded JTRS-approved multiband handheld radio and the Falcon III RF-310M-HH, the first and only Type-1 Suite B-compatible tactical military handheld radio, along with the widely deployed Falcon II AN/VRC-104, a vehicular-based radio system that includes the AN/PRC-150(C) high-frequency manpack. Harris also is providing accessories, training and other field support.
"Harris Falcon III is delivering the tactical network that our military needs to stay connected at the edge." The Harris Falcon III family of radios addresses the DoD's full gamut of mission requirements for line-of-sight, beyond-line-of-sight and wideband networking communications,'' said Brendan O'Connell, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "These systems build on the acclaimed success of our widely deployed Falcon II line, which is in use around the world, by the United States, NATO and other allied nations. The Falcon line is software-defined and software-upgradeable to support emerging applications."
