Harris Corporation Awarded $10 Million Contract to Upgrade Eight U.S. Air National Guard Facilities
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, was awarded a $10 million contract by the United States National Guard Bureau to upgrade communications for eight Air National Guard (ANG) facilities. The agreement is in addition to two other Harris programs already supporting 14 Guard bases.
The Bureau's IT services modernization will provide an integrated, high bandwidth, structured cabling system that delivers sufficient information transport capability to support the Guard's current and future mission requirements. The eight facilities to be upgraded are located in Savannah, GA; Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center; Gulfport, MS; Fresno, CA; Selfridge, MI; Rosecrans, MO; Thompson Field, MS; and Tulsa, OK.
"This effort continues the outstanding working relationship Harris has cultivated with the Air National Guard," said Mike Deloney, vice president and general manager, Department of Defense Programs, Harris IT Services. "We already support two other programs that provide telecommunication enhancements and infrastructure upgrades on 14 Guard bases."
The Harris team includes subcontractor Hyperion. The project was awarded under the Network-Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract vehicle.
The Air National Guard is one of the seven Reserve components of the United States armed forces that augment the active components in the performance of their missions. The ANG has both a federal and state mission. The Guard's federal mission is to maintain well-trained, well-equipped units available for prompt mobilization during war and provide assistance during national emergencies (such as natural disasters or civil disturbances). When Guard units are not mobilized or under federal control, they report to the governor of their respective state, territory, or district, providing for protection of life and property, and preservation of peace, order and public safety.
