Harrah's Entertainment Resorts Distribute 50,000 Energy Efficient Light Bulbs on Earth Day
LAS VEGAS, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Earth Day 2010, more than 400 employee volunteers from Harrah's Entertainment resorts across the country plan to distribute 50,000 energy-efficient light bulbs in local communities.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)* are environmentally friendly and reduce energy costs substantially with compared conventional incandescent light bulbs. The 50,000 bulbs will reduce more than 45 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions and save more than $400,000 in energy costs.
On or near Earth Day, employees from 27 Harrah's resorts will distribute the bulbs in 15 communities, including: Chester, PA; Tunica and Biloxi, MS; New Orleans, LA; Metropolis and Joliet, IL; Council Bluffs, IA; Hammond and Elizabeth, IN; St. Louis, MO; Las Vegas, Laughlin, Reno and Lake Tahoe, NV; and Rincon (near San Diego), CA. Some resorts will set up central distribution locations in their communities in addition to sharing them door-to-door.

- In the past six years, Harrah's has invested more then $60 million in energy savings measures that have reduced consumption by 163 million kilowatt hours a year, enough to power 15,000 homes or a population of 40,000.

Harrah's was also the first in its industry to win an EPA WasteWise New Partner Gold Achievement award and an Environmental Quality Award. - In 2009, Harrah's HERO teams volunteered more than 114,000 hours in community service projects. The Harrah's Foundation has donated more than $46 million since 2003 to community nonprofits.
