Harper Government Supports the Segal Centre for Performing Arts
MONTRÉAL, March 18, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that the Segal Centre for Performing Arts is benefitting from a boost to its fundraising efforts through the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal.
"Today's announcement demonstrates that we are serious about supporting organizations like the Segal Centre for Performing Arts that not only enrich the cultural life in our communities, but also strengthen our country's economy," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to support the work of the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal to encourage private sector donations to the arts."
The Segal Centre for Performing Arts showcases professional artists from here and abroad. It plays a leading role in the artistic development of Montréal's youth and the creation of the city's cultural legacy.
"It cannot be denied that the arts, business and philanthropy are interdependent. More than ever, cultural organizations rely on this interdependence for their sustainability. The Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund enables private-sector donors to play a leading role in creating a sustainable future for the Segal Centre for Performing Arts," said Manon Gauthier, the Centre's Chief Executive Officer.
The Government of Canada is providing funding of $2,000,000 for the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal to manage and invest on behalf of the Segal Centre for Performing Arts. Funding is provided through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, which encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations. This year, the Government of Canada is matching one dollar for every dollar donated by the private sector.
