ATLANTA, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Harlem Globetrotters today announced a new partnership with LakePoint Sporting Community to become the new site of the team's annual training camp. The multi-purpose athletic destination facility will serve as the home base for the Globetrotters as the team begins preparations for its 2017 World Tour.
"We are thrilled to bring the Harlem Globetrotters training camp to LakePoint Sporting Community this year," said Howard Smith, president of the Harlem Globetrotters. "This one-of-a-kind facility will provide us with all the tools we need to make the 2017 World Tour our best one yet."
LakePoint Sporting Community, a 1,300-acre complex in Emerson, Ga. – located an hour north of the Globetrotters' new headquarters in Norcross – opened in 2014, and has quickly become one of the top destinations for numerous national events. LakePoint's newest venue, the 170,000 SF Champions Center, features 12 full-size basketball courts, meeting rooms, locker rooms, and much more; making it an easy decision for the Globetrotters to replace Island Garden Basketball Sports Center on Long Island in New York, as the team's training camp site.
"To have a prestigious and historic organization, such as the Harlem Globetrotters, choose LakePoint as the new site of their training camp, really helps to confirm the Champions Center as one of the premier indoor sports venues in the nation," said Earl Ehrhart, CEO of LakePoint Sporting Community. "They are the gold standard for blending sports and entertainment, just as we are with providing a quality sports destination for teams and fans from all over."
Training camp will begin on Monday, Nov. 28 when the 2017 team will take the floor for its first practice, and will conclude on Friday, Dec. 9. The Globetrotters will then tip off their 2017 World Tour on Dec. 26 and will play in over 250 North American markets as well as 30 countries worldwide. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at harlemglobetrotters.com.
