The hardware world is entering a new phase as Moore's Law passes the upper inflection point of the S-curve. The day of MHz doubling every 18 months is long gone. As the technology treadmill slows down, new opportunities for value creation arise. This keynote presentation will showcase the new industry opportunities and how Open Source Hardware can play a role in building lasting value and user communities around a hardware platform.
"As the biggest annual event for the electronics industry, we are very excited to offer a line-up of cutting-edge speakers for embedded engineers and technical professionals who design electronics systems," said Karen Field, SVP Editorial Director, EE Times and GM, EE Live!. "We are expanding our keynote program with the addition of Bunnie Huang. With Open Source Hardware being such a timely topic in the industry we look forward to hearing Bunnie's insights."
Huang has been passionate about hardware his entire life. Huang has designed nanophotonic silicon chips, wireless radios, consumer electronics, and robotic submarines, among other things. He was also involved in some of the earliest stages of hardware reverse engineering on the Xbox, and his experiences are summarized in his book, "Hacking the Xbox: An Introduction to Reverse Engineering." In addition, he is a proponent of open source hardware, and is an active contributor to the ecosystem. At chumby, Huang designed several open source hardware platforms, some of which had found its way to the shelves of retailers around the world. Huang is also an educator; he serves as a Research Affiliate for the MIT Media Lab, technical advisor for several hardware startups and MAKE magazine and shares his experiences manufacturing hardware in China through his blog. Huang earned a PhD in EE from MIT. In 2012 he was honored with an Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award for his work in hardware hacking, open source and activism.
EE Live! 2014 will feature the flagship Embedded Systems Conference (ESC); along with the Black Hat Embedded Security Summit, the Internet Of Things (IoT) Engineering Summit, the Hardware Startup Engineering Summit, two-day intensive courses on Android Engineering, FPGAs, and C++, as well as an exhibition of 200+ leading electronics vendors and solution providers.
EE Live! sponsors include Diamond Sponsor, Microchip Technology and Silver Sponsors, Texas Instruments, Rohde & Schwartz and STMicroelectronics. View exhibitor list.
