MORRISVILLE, N.C., April 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HAP Innovations (HAP), a consumer health technology company, announced today the appointment of Alan Menius as Chief Data Scientist. Prior to this role, Alan spent 25 years at GlaxoSmithKline where he led advanced analytics teams responsible for leveraging disparate data sources and advanced analytics to inform the safety and effectiveness of medicines. Most recently, Alan led the analytics efforts of the GSK/Community Care North Carolina (CCNC) Medication Management Collaboration.
With Menius' appointment, HAP solidifies its commitment to driving in-home patient engagement with individualized 360-degree snapshots of a patient's self-reported health status. spencer™, the company's advanced in-home medication dispenser communication hub, connects people in communities of care for engagement and encouragement. Pharmacists and caregivers can rely on real-time patient insights to help those individuals self-manage their health routines, including medications, so they can live more independently.
"Only every once in a while, is there an opportunity like this to make a true impact," noted Menius. "This is disruption to the traditional health system in a very good way. I'm proud to join a team dedicated to empowering patients to take control of their own health and make a positive impact on their health outcomes."
Biometric data, including weight and blood pressure, is captured by spencer via Bluetooth-enabled devices. Combined with real-time patient-reported feedback provided on spencer's touch screen, the biometric and medication adherence data is available to care providers, caregivers and pharmacists through cloud services.
HAP is currently expanding its national network of pharmacies offering enhanced clinical services focused on the chronically ill. Today, network pharmacies offer spencer in 17 states. Through global distributor agreements and health system partnerships, the company expects up to 15,000 spencer units in home use by the end of 2017.
"With the addition of Alan to our executive team, we have a unique opportunity to leverage our robust patient-reported health status information in new ways," noted Tom Rhoads, HAP founder and CEO. "This combination of data – adherence at time of dispense, health status indicator and probability scoring - help make spencer the future of connected care."
Alan is a member of the American Statistical Association and has participated in the Institute of Medicine's Clinical Effectiveness Research Innovation Collaborative. He has also served as an elected member of the Quantitative Sciences in the Pharmaceutical Industry (QSPI) core team and as a member of SAS's Analytics Customer Advisory Board. Alan has over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has given numerous invited presentations on advanced analytics at national and international meetings. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University and a M.H.S. in Biometry from Duke University.
