Hans Engel Appointed Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., May 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hans Engel is the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BASF Corporation, headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey, effective May 6, 2011. He succeeds Kurt Bock, who became the new Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE at BASF's global headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Hans Engel (52) started his career at BASF in the Legal department in Ludwigshafen in 1988. In 1997, he became Managing Director of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH, Germany. From 2000 until 2006, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of BASF Corporation based in New Jersey. In 2008, Engel was named to BASF's Board of Executive Directors. In his most recent position he was responsible for the Oil & Gas Division, the Europe Regional Division and the Competence Center Global Procurement & Logistics.
Hans Engel was born in Gottingen, Germany, in 1959. He studied law at the Universities of Gottingen and Freiburg, Germany, from 1977 until 1983. He completed legal training from 1984 to 1987 at the Higher Regional Court, Oldenburg, Germany, before earning his doctorate at the University of Gottingen. Engel is married and has two children.
