Hanergy Pledges to Further Contribute to China's Clean Energy Development and Poverty Alleviation
BEIJING, Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hanergy Holding Group, China's largest thin-film solar cell manufacturer, announced plans to further leverage its world leading thin film technology for China's clean energy development and poverty alleviation.
After attending the opening and closing ceremony of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Hanergy chairman Li Hejun said: "China today is facing significant opportunities and challenges in energy conservation, emissions reduction and environment conservation. With our global leading thin-film technology and world-class R&D capability, Hanergy is well-positioned to provide efficient green energy solutions to help support China's sustainable development."
Hanergy's thin film solar technology holds five world records for conversion efficiency, three for its Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) technology including single-junction solar cells and dual-junction solar cells, which achieved conversion rates under lab conditions of 28.8% and 31.6%, respectively, and its mass produced modules which achieved 24.8% conversion efficiency, as certified by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a laboratory under the U.S. Department of Energy. Additionally, Hanergy subsidiary MiaSolé's new generation of sputtering Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) flexible modules boast a category leading 18% efficiency, and subsidiary Solibro's mass produced 16.97% efficient co-evaporation CIGS modules also lead their category.
With its world-class technology, Hanergy has been committed to transforming the transportation industry and many others with the development of clean and efficient solar energy solutions. The company has recently cooperated with major bike sharing companies, including Mobike, 99 Bicycle and MTBikie to integrate thin-film solar panels into the bodies of over 15 million bicycles in the next three years, which will help to significantly reduce carbon emissions in China.
On the automobile side, beyond developing its own solar vehicles, Hanergy's American subsidiary Alta Devices is currently working with Audi to integrate solar cells into panoramic automobile roofs.
Thin-film solar panels are also increasingly being used for high-performance drones and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). Compared with battery-powered UAVs, thin-film solar power can significantly extend flight endurance which allows aircraft to stay aloft longer, cover greater ground and carry heavier loads. High efficient thin-film panels can also power other sophisticated on-board capabilities, such as sensors, communications hardware and lighting.
Hanergy also leverages its strong technological strength to support China's poverty alleviation projects. Following the Chinese government's call for poverty alleviation, in the first half of the year 2017, Hanergy has signed contracts for more than 20 photovoltaic poverty alleviation projects through direct sales to major customers with a total contracted amount reaching RMB267 million. As the carbon emissions saved from every 25 Hanergy film thin panels is equivalent to planting a tree, with millions of Hanergy panels installed carbon emissions will see a significant reduction.
One of Hanergy's innovations is to build greenhouses incorporating thin-film solar panels. Different from opaque PV panels, thin films can filter the useful light into the greenhouse, helping to accelerate the maturation cycle for plants and vegetables. In addition, "thin-film greenhouses" can also act as electricity generators, helping further create income for local communities.
