Hampton University Selects Cox Business as Primary Telecommunications Provider through New 5-Year Agreement
CHESAPEAKE, Va., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hampton University has selected Cox Business as its telecommunications provider. HU is among the oldest and most revered historically black universities in the nation.
Although Cox previously provided select services to HU, the new 5-year agreement expands the relationship making Cox the primary provider on campus. Cox services will be available to HU's estimated 5000 students and will span across the main HU campus and its remote sites. The primary services provisioned are for phone and Internet. The agreement is for a term of 5 years; however, provisions are set forth to expand it beyond that timeframe.
Cox will provide secure, high capacity bandwidth to meet the University's technology needs at a significant cost savings over the University's previous provider. Cox's flexible network allows for any level of scalability meaning that Cox can tailor Internet speeds and bandwidth capacity to meet the growing needs of the University. Cox provides services using a highly reliable fiber and SONET (Synchronous optical networking) technology. The network was engineered to ensure future growth while understanding the importance of reliability to the faculty, staff and students.
Doretha Spells, Hampton University Vice President for Business Affairs and Treasurer, said, "Our goal was to secure the best telecommunications solutions for the HU community at the very best price. We achieved this goal and more with the selection of Cox Business. This agreement will help ensure that students, faculty and staff have the technology they need to succeed in today's digital world."
Mike Braham, Vice President of Cox Business, said, "We are delighted that Hampton University has opted to expand its relationship with Cox. With this relationship, Cox is leveraging its entire Total Value Proposition which ensures that we provide excellent services, at competitive rates, and with superior customer care. We look forward to a long-term partnership that allows us to customize telecommunications solutions to meet the needs of the University."
