Hamilton Relay Offers $500 Scholarships for Higher Education
Telecommunications Relay Service provider to award $500 scholarship to one student in each of the 18 states where it operates
AURORA, Neb., Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton Relay, Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) provider, will award 18 scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year. The (USD) $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to one graduating high school senior who is deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or has difficulty speaking, in each of the states where Hamilton holds the TRS contract. Applications are due March 1, 2011.
"Creating opportunities for higher education is important to Hamilton Relay," said Hamilton Relay vice president, Dixie Ziegler. "The goal of the Hamilton Relay Scholarship is to support young adults who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking in their post-secondary education."
The Hamilton Relay Scholarship is extended to one qualifying high school student living within each of the states where Hamilton Relay is the contracted telecommunications relay and/or captioned telephone service provider. Students from the following states are eligible: Arizona, California, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington D.C. and Wyoming.
The objectives of the Hamilton Relay Scholarship are as follows:
- To support opportunities for higher education for graduating high school seniors who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking.
- To acknowledge the efforts of students who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking by rewarding them for their academic excellence and valued community involvement.
- To better serve communities comprised of individuals who may be deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking, starting with the youth.
Who is Eligible?
The Hamilton Relay Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors only. Eligible students must be deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking and be actively applying to a four-year college or university, or other higher education institution.

Students must submit a completed application and letter of recommendation to their specified Hamilton Relay Outreach Coordinator by March 1, 2011. Applications are available at:
