Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Hosted a Ribbon Cutting for Chinese Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Unit
Longevity Garden Offers Skilled Nursing to Chinese Community
BROOKLYN, N.Y., March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Hamilton Park), an Allure Group facility, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 8th to celebrate the opening of the Longevity Garden, a post-acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing unit serving the cultural, culinary and linguistic needs of the local Chinese community.
The Allure Group selected the name Longevity Garden after the Chinese symbol Shou, which denotes happiness, prosperity and longevity. The 50-bed unit features a contemporary Asian-inspired design adorned with photos of traditional pagodas, ink and watercolor paintings, and decorative motifs to create a familiar environment. The unit is located on the fifth floor of Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and managed by Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking registered nurses. Hamilton Park has recently expanded its staffing team to include other dialects of Chinese-speaking RNs, nurse's aids, dieticians, social workers and therapists. The dining hall is decorated with Chinese designs, and residents enjoy selecting from a Chinese menu with entrees prepared on site.
More than 20 not-for-profit, business and community leaders took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony, including honored guest Mr. Justin Yu, Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New York and Mr. John Chan, Chairman of the Brooklyn Asian Community Empowerment who both addressed those in attendance.
"Having our base in Brooklyn helps us recognize the importance of culturally-sensitive healthcare and the value it offers to the growing local Chinese community," said Melissa Powell, The Allure Group's Chief Operating Officer. "We are excited that the Longevity Garden will provide an environment where Chinese residents can receive superior care, communicate in their own language and receive sub-acute rehabilitation in a comfortable setting that feels like home."
"It is no secret that environment plays a key role in healing and we at Allure are thrilled to offer this program not just here at Hamilton Park, but also at Bedford Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in the heart of Williamsburg," says Matthew Fenley, The Allure Group's Senior Vice President of Business Development.
