Hamilton Community Health Network Partners with Meridian Health Plan for Flint Water Crisis Health Education Days
DETROIT, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Flint Water Crisis Health Education Days brings physicians, nutritionists, food demonstrations, free nutritional food giveaways, water filter cartridges and bottled water distribution to the City of Flint. This family-focused series provides education on lead poisoning from healthcare professionals and how to reduce levels of lead in the body.
The first event, hosted Tuesday, March 8 at the North Pointe Clinic, brought together community members to participate in educational seminars, activities for children and giveaways. Meridian Health Plan donated and passed out more than 350 bags of food to all individuals who attended the event and to the Hamilton Community Health Network and Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
"We are thankful to have events that support our community of Flint, especially during this time of need," said Clarence Pierce, CEO, Hamilton Community Health Network, Inc. "We are projecting double the attendance and reach for our next event on March 16. Hamilton Community Health Network is grateful for our partnership with Meridian Health Plan, as all food donated by them during these events assists in lessening the effects of lead."
The remaining events will take place Wednesday, March 16 at the Burton Clinic, G-3375 S. Saginaw St., and Wednesday, March 23 at the Hamilton Main Clinic, 2900 N. Saginaw St. Both events are in the evening from 5:30–8:30 p.m.
"Through our 'Fueling the Food for Flint' initiative and partnering with Hamilton Community Health Network for Flint Water Crisis Health Education Days, we are able to educate Flint community members on both the effects of lead and the power of nutritious food," said Jon Cotton, president and COO, Meridian Health Plan. "It is very important to work in the Flint community at this time, as we can make a lasting impact on the health and wellness of Flint residents."
