ALPHARETTA, Ga., Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Halyard Health (NYSE: HYH), formerly Kimberly-Clark Health Care, a global medical technology company focused on preventing infection, eliminating pain and speeding recovery, today announced that its COOLIEF* Cooled Radiofrequency (RF) Treatment was awarded the coveted Innovative Technology designation by Novation at its Innovative Technology Expo on September 10, 2014.
COOLIEF* is a minimally invasive, outpatient treatment that uses cooled radiofrequency energy to safely treat chronic pain by targeting the sensory nerves causing pain. The procedure is an option for patients who have experienced little relief from traditional treatments such as oral anti-inflammatory medications, steroid injections, physical therapy, surgical interventions and standard RF. During the procedure, water is circulated through the device while heating nervous tissue to create a treatment area that is larger than conventional RF treatments without excessive heating, leading to longer lasting pain relief. The treatment involves no incision and requires no general anesthesia, so patients should be able to return home shortly after the treatment.
COOLIEF* was awarded the Innovative Technology designation following a review by more than 200 attendees from hospitals around the United States who serve on a Novation council or task force and participated in the Expo. These key opinion leaders indicated that COOLIEF* offered an incremental benefit over other pain relief treatments available on the market.
"COOLIEF*'s ability to target and treat chronic pain in a minimally invasive way was recognized by Novation-served hospital representatives at the Novation Innovative Technology Expo as an improvement in the treatment of chronic pain," said Olya Carter, RN and senior clinical manager at Novation. "We are pleased to offer the members we serve COOLIEF*'s cooled radio frequency energy as a means of treating patients with chronic pain."
"COOLIEF* is a minimally invasive option to alleviate chronic pain which can be challenging for clinicians to treat effectively. This procedure enables patients to consider a non-surgical option for pain relief that can reduce the need for medication," said Lisa Kudlacz, general manager, Interventional Pain Management, Halyard Health. "We are proud to receive this recognition from Novation for our efforts to help people get back to their active everyday lives."
This new designation will also identify COOLIEF* as an awarded Innovative Technology product within Novation's online contract catalog, which is accessible by the more than 100,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children's Hospital Association and Provista served by Novation. This enhanced visibility will encourage further consideration by members accessing this agreement.
