SEATTLE, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- HaloSource, a leading clean water company, has signed an agreement with DelAgua, the UK based water testing organisation, for the development of an emergency response point-of-use drinking water device that will use HaloSource's revolutionary HaloPure® disinfection technology combined with its proprietary pre-treatment biopolymers.
DelAgua produces and distributes the Oxfam DelAgua kit, developed in collaboration with international non-governmental organization (NGO), Oxfam. The kit enables field workers to test water quality in remote and isolated locations and in circumstances where there is no access to a water testing laboratory and is used by all major NGOs and aid agencies in over 130 countries.
The development of a HaloPure® powered emergency response device will enable DelAgua to further support emergency relief efforts by providing a water treatment product that removes 99.9% of disease-causing bacteria and viruses present in variable source water, delivering a high level of water purification without the need for electricity or water pressure, making it particularly suitable for treating water in the field.
In 2009 HaloPure® became the first new drinking water technology in more than a decade to be granted both Manufacture-For-Use and Device registrations by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), widely recognized as having the world's most stringent performance requirements for water purification. HaloPure® is a unique contact biocide technology that is proven to attack and kill a wide range of harmful microorganisms, including killing the pathogens responsible for 85% of the world's water-borne diseases, and is being rolled out to a variety of markets around the world, including India, China, Brazil and the United States.
John Kaestle, Chief Executive of HaloSource, commented, "We are particularly pleased to be embarking on this project with DelAgua as we firmly believe a HaloPure powered device can transform water quality in the myriad of emergency response situations the world over. Being able to provide access to disease-free, safe water at a time of greatest need without the need for electricity or water pressure makes HaloPure a truly life-changing technology"
Neil McDougall, Chairman of DelAgua, commented, "The opportunity to explore the use of a new and powerful technology to address waterborne illness in emergency response settings enhances our commitment to the sector and our history in providing positive impact under trying circumstances. We look forward to working with the HaloSource team on this effort."
