A team from Halcyon Software, based at Minerva Business Park, Lynch Wood, has returned from conquering the National 3 Peaks Challenge over 29th and 30th June. Ten team members, plus a dedicated driver, criss-crossed Britain covering more than 1100 miles, in a non-stop effort to climb the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales raising more than £3000 for charity.
Although the team had specifically chosen dates in June to maximise on daylight hours, the walkers found themselves battling the elements as well as the mountains. Continuous rain, high winds, poor visibility and sleep deprivation seriously hampered their efforts but undeterred, they pressed on only beginning the climb of the final mountain, Snowdon, almost 28 hours after they had started climbing Ben Nevis at the start of their challenge. This led to some of the intrepid group having to descend from Snowdon in the dark but being well-prepared all made it back safely, completing the whole challenge in a very creditable time of just under 33 hours.
The team's efforts will bring in over £3,000 in donations once the total sponsorship money has been collected which will benefit Peterborough & District Deaf Children Society, national charity Sue Ryder Homes and the international organisation, SOS Children.
