Corporate Executive Offers Extensive Financial & Management Expertise
WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Financial and management expert Henry "Hal" Shelton of Bethesda, Md., has been re-elected Treasurer for the board of SCORE, "Counselors to America's Small Business." Shelton served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of USEC Inc. since its inception in 1993 until his retirement in 2004. USEC is a leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. USEC operates the only uranium enrichment facility in the United States and supplies more than half of the U.S. market and more than a quarter of the world market. Shelton was the architect of USEC's financial practices, capital structure and corporate governance, having received a near-perfect (99.9 percent) corporate governance rating from Institutional Shareholder Services. As a result of his responsibilities, accomplishments and training, Shelton qualifies as an audit committee "financial expert" as defined by SEC regulations.
Prior to joining USEC, Shelton was with Sunoco, Inc., where he held a number of senior financial management and inside board positions in the areas of exploration and production, refining and marketing, shipbuilding and the corporate headquarters. Shelton also has served on the board of RWD Technologies, Inc., and the Washington/Philadelphia advisory board of Factory Mutual Insurance Company.
Shelton joined Washington, D.C. SCORE in 2005, where he has served as chapter chair and district director. He was elected to the SCORE Association and The SCORE Foundation boards of directors in 2008 and has served on numerous committees and projects.
Shelton also has served his community as an elected councilman and planning commission chair, as well as past president of the Pennsylvania Economy League's Eastern Chapter, head of a citywide UNCF fundraising drive, and Boy Scout leader. He is a member of Financial Executives International.
SCORE Board Chair Doug Kindred says, "Hal Shelton's business background and expertise offers SCORE a wealth of financial, management and oversight experience." Kindred adds, "Hal is dedicated to supporting SCORE's mentoring and training, which will help our nation recover from the recession."
