Haivision and NGCodec Collaborate Towards High Performance HEVC/H.265 Encoding Applications
Together the companies get the most out of Xilinx FPGA technology to deliver low latency and highly efficient video encoding for broadcast and defense applications
AMSTERDAM, Sept. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Haivision, a market leader in enterprise video and streaming solutions, and NGCodec, a Silicon Valley technology company focused on HEVC/H.265 codec development, announce that they have strategically partnered towards delivering optimized video encoding solutions for high performance network video applications. The agreement established the framework for cooperation and for licensing of NGCodec HEVC/H.265 technology within Haivision's solutions.
Haivision has significant experience in the requirements and application of low latency video in the areas of broadcast and sports (remote interviews, centralized officiating, return video feeds) and in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) markets among others. The particular needs of these markets are to increase video quality, maximize channel count, and/or reduce the costs associated with backhaul, contribution, and remote video operations making the HEVC standard so appealing. These markets have further design requirements of minimal latency and size, weight, and power to accommodate portable, interactive, and mission critical applications. Remote operations have historically been served by costly satellite links that have specific bandwidth limitations. HEVC/H.265 allows users in these markets to maximize their current infrastructure with no further investments, or to take advantage of lower cost workflows over more accessible and lower latency public internet connections.
"At NGCodec we have focused on developing the lowest latency and resource efficient FPGA video codec while maximizing video quality," said Oliver Gunasekara, CEO & co-founder at NGCodec. "Working with Haivision, we have benefited from an understanding of the world's most rigorous video applications."
"Customers are looking for lower power and cost effective H.265/HEVC video encoding solutions, but still want the flexibility to update the design in the field to support emerging capabilities," said Ramesh Iyer, Director of Pro A/V and Broadcast Market Segment at Xilinx. "By combining Xilinx FPGAs with video encoding IP from NGCodec within an integrated high performance solution, Haivision is able to address the unique challenges of the markets and customers being serviced through this technology."
"Haivision is focusing on blending the latest HEVC innovations with network transport and ecosystem solutions," said Mahmoud Al-Daccak, Haivision's CTO and EVP of Product Development. "Our end-to-end HEVC solutions deliver low latency video with superior quality at extremely low bit rates over any network."
