Hair Cuttery to Donate More Than 86,000 Haircut Certificates to the Homeless

VIENNA, Va., Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hair Cuttery, the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country, is proud to announce that it will be donating more than 86,000 haircuts to the homeless. This February's Share-A-Haircut program exceeded its donation goal, surpassing last year's number of donated haircut certificates by 36,000.

For every haircut purchased at one of Hair Cuttery's nearly 900 salons on Feb. 1-2, Hair Cuttery will be donating a free haircut certificate locally to a homeless adult or child in that community. The certificates will be distributed through partnerships with resident shelters and community organizations, including Somerville Homeless Coalition, Community Connections and Orlando Union Rescue Mission.

"The reactions we have received from our Share-A-Haircut program have shown us that a small thing like a haircut can mean a lot to someone especially during a transitional period," said Dennis Ratner, Founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. "Through the generosity and compassion of our customers, we are able to boost self-confidence and bring a smile to the faces of those less fortunate who are deserving of a fresh start."

Case Manager Gianna Nilio of partnering non-profit agency Community Connections held back tears as she distributed a free haircut certificate to patron Cheryl Taylor. As she received her voucher, Taylor said, "This haircut will make me feel better... I have two more appointments for my housing placement coming up. It's going to make me feel twice as good and make me look in the mirror more; new apartment, new hair, new Cheryl."

Since 1999, the Share-A-Haircut program has donated more than 1.34 million free haircut certificates valued at $26.7 million.
