Hair Cuttery Donates More Than 61,000 Haircuts to Children in Need Nationwide
Hair Cuttery Provides a Confidence Boost for Underprivileged Children Ahead of the New School Year
VIENNA, Va., Aug. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hair Cuttery, the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country, today announced a donation of 61,991 free haircut certificates to disadvantaged children—just in time for back to school. From August 1-15, youth across the U.S. had the opportunity to give back to their peers; for every haircut purchased by or for a child up to age 18, one was donated back to a child in need in their local community.
"Going back to school is an important time in a child's life. If we can calm those first-day jitters with the confidence boost of a new haircut, then Share-A-Haircut was a success," said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. "Share-A-Haircut offers something we usually take for granted, but a haircut can make all the difference to a child who would otherwise go without. We want every child leaving Hair Cuttery to feel ready and excited for the upcoming school year."
Catholic Charities of Cape May County, an organization that received over 1,000 donation certificates, was thrilled with Hair Cuttery's commitment to the community.
"It is such a wonderful gesture. Our clients are so happy to receive this uplifting gift," said Cheryl King, Site Coordinator for Catholic Charities' Rio Grande location. "For many living in poverty, even something as simple as a haircut can be an out-of-reach expense. That can take a toll on a child's self-esteem, especially before returning to school for the year."
In addition to in-store donations, Hair Cuttery engaged thousands of supporters online. For the 7,758 users who shared a campaign image via Facebook, an additional free haircut certificate was added to the donation tally. Hair Cuttery also encouraged customers to share back to school looks across social platforms to generate excitement for the program.
To date, the Share-A-Haircut program has reached more than 1.04 million children with haircut certificate donations, valued at $20.84 million.
Hair Cuttery has an established history of charitable giving, supporting a range of local and national causes including, St. Baldrick's Foundation, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, OneOrlando, Girls on the Run and The National Network to End Domestic Violence.
