BOCA RATON, Fla., July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For adults, hair loss can be challenging, but for children and teens, it can be emotionally devastating.
"Kids have a tough time understanding why hair loss is happening to them—and when they research online, misinformation abounds," said Lee Zoppa, Hair Club's Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. "The good news is that help is available."
August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month and a good time to spotlight the difficulties children with hair loss face. Often their hair loss is due to cancer treatment or conditions like alopecia and trichotillomania. Hair Club's charitable program, Hair Club for Kids ("HCFK"), offers a unique opportunity for children to receive free, non-surgical hair restoration.
Isabelle O'Donnell, 22, has lived with alopecia universalis, an autoimmune condition that causes complete hair loss, for years. She started her Xtrands+® solution with HCFK at age nine and has since flourished into a strong, young woman—even earning her cosmetology license and becoming a Hair Club stylist.
"HCFK gave me something I could never describe—confidence, willpower and security," said Isabelle. "Now, I want to help give back to others. Hair Club has become my family."
Danielle Thompson, 15, is one of millions with trichotillomania, an impulse control disorder that causes people to pull out their own hair. She joined HCFK at age 10 and received Xtrands+. Now, with support from family and friends, she enjoys having a full head of beautiful hair.
"Before HCFK, I felt different and sad," said Danielle. "After HCFK, I felt normal and happy again for the first time in a long time. I don't know what I would've done without HCFK and the kindness of each person there."
To qualify for the program, boys and girls must be ages 6-17 and have parental consent. For more information, click here.
