Haemonetics' BloodTrack System Wins Top Prize at UK Computing Awards
Recognized for Improving Blood Management
BRAINTREE, Mass. and LONDON, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE) announced today that the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust was named the winner of the best Public Sector Project at the UK IT Computing Awards. The prize was awarded for the implementation of Haemonetics' BloodTrack® transfusion management system across all hospitals in Oxford Radcliffe's system.
Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals transfuse 30,000 units of blood each year, at pounds sterling 130 per unit, equaling pounds sterling 3.9m per annum. The BloodTrack electronic blood transfusion system project was implemented across 80 clinical areas on budget and on time within 13 months. Now 98 percent of transfusions and blood samples are carried out using the system, and benefits include improvements in patient safety and significant cost savings.
As the global leader in blood management solutions, Haemonetics helps hospitals and blood collectors to optimize the collection, processing, and use of scarce blood resources. The Company's broad product offering includes blood collection and separation technologies, surgical blood salvage systems, information technology platforms, and consulting services that better manage the blood supply chain through improved blood management practices.
In April 2009, Haemonetics acquired Neoteric Technology Ltd and the BloodTrack system used at Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust. The system includes BloodTrack Courier, kiosks that secure and track blood in and out of refrigerators; BloodTrack Tx, a mobile bedside point-of-care (BPOC) transfusion safety system; and several HemoNine computer controlled nine-drawer locking refrigerators that automatically allocate and dispense blood on demand.
Regarding the UK IT Computing Award, Peter Allen, Chief Marketing Officer of Haemonetics said, "The award is very well deserved, and we congratulate the team. The Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust has worked with Neoteric for several years to ensure that BloodTrack meets the needs of thousands of users across 4 hospitals. We are delighted to see that the care, attention and hard work put into this project have been recognized with this prestigious award."
David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, said: "This year's Awards have been exceptional. To win is an absolutely fantastic achievement, and I offer my heartfelt congratulations to all those who took part. The BloodTrack system, in particular, not only provides examples of best practice, but also demonstrates how IT is enabling today's information society from entertainment to healthcare, manufacturing to retail."
