HackerRank Hires David Park as VP of Product
Former Facebook Growth PM Joins HackerRank to Solve Perceived Engineering Skills Gap
PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HackerRank, which creates job opportunities for the world's programmers by ranking them based on their skill instead of their pedigree, announced today the hiring of David Park as Vice President of Products and Growth. Park will oversee HackerRank's product development efforts and growth, connecting engineers seamlessly with the companies that need them, disproving the widely-held perception that there is a shortage of skilled software engineers.
HackerRank is a technical talent platform used by software developers around the world to hone their coding skills, compete in engineering challenges, and ultimately find jobs. Thousands of companies like Amazon, VMware, and Airbnb use HackerRank to source, evaluate, interview, and hire software engineers.
"There is no such thing as an engineering skills gap. In fact, there are millions of skilled computer programmers in the world," said Vivek Ravisankar, co-founder and CEO of HackerRank. "Companies are simply not using the right approach when looking for tech talent. We are on a mission to change the way companies hire engineers, and David's deep product and growth experience will help us better connect our skilled developers to companies."
Park has spent his career building online communities and joins HackerRank from leading Facebook's Notification team, which is one of Facebook's single biggest drivers of daily and monthly active user growth. At Facebook, Park and his 30 person team oversaw the sending and optimization of billions of emails and tens of billions of push notifications every day. Over his career, which includes senior product roles at Nextdoor and Intuit, Park experienced first-hand the difficulties of sourcing and hiring talented engineers. Park joins HackerRank to help solve this problem.
"HackerRank is reinventing the way that developers find jobs, and the way companies hire developers. My goal is to continually improve and scale our industry-leading platform so that every developer in the world can access HackerRank to learn, compete and ultimately to get hired," said David Park. "There are millions of highly skilled software engineers out there, and yet companies are not finding them. HackerRank has the leadership, vision, and team in place to truly resolve the alleged engineering skills gap."
Park is the latest in a string of executives – including COO Grady Burnett, head of talent Scott Gilfoil, and senior engineer Ahmed Aly – joining HackerRank as the company scales its product, growth, engineering, and operations teams.
