Haag-Streit USA Surgical Microscope Integrates With Lenstar Biometer
MASON, Ohio, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Haag-Streit's Ophthalmic Surgical Microscope can now be used with the Lenstar LS 900 Biometer to enhance surgical procedures and directly affect efficiency and workflow.
"Doctors no longer have to take a printed picture of the eye from the office and tape it to the microscope stand," said Donna Rathbone, Director of Biometry Marketing for Haag-Streit USA. "Data can be transferred electronically so the surgeon has a high-resolution image of the eye with overlays of pertinent data for reference during surgery."
The data and images available from Lenstar in the operating room can make surgery more accurate and efficient.
"Having the high-resolution eye image allows the surgeon to find and mark landmarks for reference on the patient's eye, ensuring the incision and IOL alignment are precise," said Mike Luley, Vice President of Haag-Streit USA Surgical Division. The toric surgery-planning platform optimizes the surgical procedure by showing the implantation axis, the incision location and user-defined guiding meridians in the real patient image."
Dr. Warren Hill of Mesa, Arizona, agrees.
"If there are certain landmarks on the eye, I can mark those and know that when the patient is lying down and I put my marking tool on the cornea, that, exactly at that position, will be the landmark. It's a really valuable tool for planning," he said.
Lenstar also allows real-time access to data so surgeons can check their biometry results or recalculate an IOL even while in the operating room.
"Lenstar coupled with the Haag-Streit ophthalmic surgical microscope is a powerful tool that can dramatically increase confidence in the operating room," said Luley.
