GxAlert Adds HCV Data Transmission and Alert Capabilities
Provides critical linkage to care in support of global targets
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. and JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SystemOne, the leader in global disease intelligence for rapid detection and response, recently announced that its GxAlert software is now configured to transmit HCV data for GeneXpert's® Xpert® HCV Viral Load assay. 71 million people were estimated to be infected with chronic HCV in 2015, and estimates point to the disease being responsible for 350,000 to 500,000 deaths per year. Unlike some other infectious diseases, for example HIV and TB, the number of deaths due to viral hepatitis is increasing over time.
Recent progress in treatment for HCV means that global health authorities are now able to discuss the possibility of eradicating HCV. "We believe eradication of any infectious disease can only happen when information moves more quickly than the disease," said Chris Macek, CEO, SystemOne. "Medical solutions are critical to saving lives, but they must be coupled with data solutions that enable clinical, logistical, global health and pharmaceutical stakeholders to know where and how to deploy resources and treatment. In HCV's case, earlier diagnosis is linked to better outcomes, and HCV is curable if the patient is linked to treatment."
GxAlert is now able to:
- Monitor HCV Viral Load results in real-time
- Provide insight into instrument utilization, error rates, inventory management and cartridge wastage.
GxAlert currently works with numerous diseases in over 35 countries, and its users rely on over 40,000 medical diagnostic and system notifications each month.
Xpert HCV Viral Load is a quantitative test that provides on-demand molecular testing for diagnosis and monitoring of HCV. Based on the GeneXpert technology, Xpert HCV Viral Load utilizes automated reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to provide a result within 105 minutes. GxAlert can now ensure that these results are automatically sent to healthcare providers to ensure prompt decision making.
"GxAlert can provide accurate, real-time reporting and linkage to appropriate care to support global targets," said Natasha Gous, Medical Science Liaison, SystemOne. "In May 2016, at the World Health Assembly, 194 countries adopted the first-ever Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis, agreeing to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030."
