Guru Krupa Foundation continues support of Children International's early childhood development program
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Guru Krupa Foundation has provided funding to continue Children International's early childhood development (ECD) program in India for the fourth consecutive year. The ECD program gives kids in poverty a head start as they prepare for primary school.
USAID identifies the early childhood period as "a critical foundational moment in human development." Citing research from a variety of sources, USAID explains how brain development is at its fastest and most complex during a child's early years.
By funding Children International's ECD program, the Guru Krupa Foundation is helping enrich the lives of children ages 3 to 5 by ensuring opportunities for learning and growth. The curriculum for the program is focused on early mathematical skills, language development, hand-eye coordination, and emotional and social development. By mastering these skills early, children are put on the right track for being successful in school.
Children International believes that going to school – and not dropping out – is absolutely essential to building a future free from poverty. That's why education is one of the organization's key focus areas alongside health, empowerment and employment. In addition to the ECD program, Children International provides education support in a variety of ways:
- Providing material support for supplies, uniforms, shoes or books
- Awarding scholarships to attend vocational school, college or other higher education institutions
- Working directly with parents to ensure their kids are enrolled in school
- Creating lunch programs at schools, which act as an incentive for families to keep sending their kids to school
- Tutoring kids — either one-on-one or in groups
- Making resources such as computer labs and libraries in CI community centers available to local schools.
