Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts Announced the Addition of the Nurse Assistant Program to San Mateo Campus

SAN MATEO, Calif., Dec. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gurnick Academy added a new program, Nurse Assistant, to its San Mateo campus. The addition of the Nurse Assistant program is approved by the California Department of Health and Accrediting Bureau for Health Education Schools (ABHES). Nurse Assistant Program is a certificate program.

The first class will begin on January 13th, 2015. The length of the program is seven weeks. Classes are held 3 days per week at evening time. Clinical activities are usually held during the weekends. Students who successfully complete the course will be eligible to sit for the certification exam. Passage of the certification exam will enable them to apply for a CNA position in hospitals and long-term care facilities

The Nursing Assistant program provides classroom theory, laboratory experience and clinical learning that teaches students the skills to perform duties such as taking vital signs, bathing, dressing, making beds, and other direct resident care. The focus is on caring for patients with compassion. Students are taught principles of infection control, communication techniques, and the skills to safely care for people. Community agencies are used for clinical learning and include long-term care settings.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is a private academy offering quality allied-health and nursing programs operating 4 campuses in Northern California with locations in San Mateo, Modesto, Fresno and Concord.
