Last night (May 21), Joe wowed audiences with his first appearance on Late Show with David Letterman, sitting in with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra. And in other exciting Bonamassa news, Joe just won "Best Rock Blues Album" for 2011's solo release Dust Bowl at May 10th's Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN.
Driving Towards The Daylight was produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin) and features guest artists including Aerosmith's Brad Whitford. To support the release, Bonamassa's label J&R Adventures is airing webisodes with behind-the-scenes footage about the album. It can be viewed on Joe's YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/JoeBonamassaTV).
Recorded mostly at Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, Driving Towards The Daylight is a balanced back-to-basics album that highlights Bonamassa's signature style of roots blues with rock-and-roll guts, while honoring the traditions of the original blues musicians. "We've taken some really traditional old blues songs and we've tried to imagine how they would do them in a rock context," said Shirley. "It's a very exciting return to the blues in a very visceral way. It's vibrant and it's gutsy and it's really, really rugged."
Last month, Bonamassa had the honor of playing, along with Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and Derek Trucks, at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction of blues legend Freddie King. Other Hall of Fame inductees included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Guns N' Roses, Faces, and Donovan.
