Guggenheim Partners Launches Guggenheim International to Enhance Global Client Solutions
NEW YORK, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Guggenheim Partners LLC, a global diversified financial services firm, today announced that it has established Guggenheim International, a new division dedicated to building cross-border strategic partnerships and providing solutions to sovereign, institutional, corporate, and high-net-worth clients across the globe.
"As Guggenheim continues to expand its breadth of capabilities, we are able to work with a broader range of clients on complex situations," said Todd Boehly, President of Guggenheim Partners. "By deploying our skill sets in a strategic and concerted way, we can provide sophisticated solutions that transcend borders – this is the goal of our new International division."
The first such project already being managed by Guggenheim International is Helios, a major European solar energy initiative designed to generate at least 10 gigawatts of photovoltaic power in Greece by 2020. In early March, Guggenheim was appointed as the strategic and financial advisor to the Hellenic Republic to support the design and development of Helios.
Guggenheim International's President is Mark Medish, a former senior U.S. Treasury and White House official with extensive experience in international and emerging markets. Ambassador Steven Jay Green serves as Guggenheim International's Chairman. The group's leadership team also includes Senior Advisor Daniel Lucich, who formerly served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Trade and Investment in the U.S. Treasury Department. Messrs. Medish, Green and Lucich will be supported by an advisory board comprised of a prominent group of financial, industrial, regional, and policy specialists.
"Guggenheim Partners is an extraordinary organization with an impressive combination of financial, advisory, and policy knowledge," said Ambassador Green. "Guggenheim International will bring the firm's unique, solutions-based approach to a broader set of clients and strategic partners around the world. Project Helios is an excellent example of the type of value that can be created with the right international collaboration."
Based in Miami, Ambassador Green is currently CEO of K1 Ventures, a diversified investment company, as well as a member of Guggenheim Partners' Executive Committee. During his posting as U.S. Ambassador to Singapore from 1997 to 2001, he spearheaded a number of programs that greatly enhanced U.S.-Singapore cooperation; he currently serves as a special advisor to the Singapore Government. Ambassador Green has more than 25 years' experience as an international industrialist in a host of areas, including a period as CEO of the Samsonite Corporation.
Based in Washington, D.C., Mr. Medish has more than 20 years of experience in international affairs and global markets. Prior to joining Guggenheim, Mr. Medish was Executive Vice President of APCO Worldwide and Vice President at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. From 2001 through 2006, he was a Partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP, leading the firm's emerging markets practice. Previously, Mr. Medish served at the White House as Special Assistant to President Clinton and as Senior Director for Russian, Ukrainian and Eurasian Affairs on the National Security Council. Mr. Medish also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs from 1997 to 2000, with a regional portfolio covering Central Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, and South Asia.
