RESTON, Va., Feb. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- GTL announced today that its patented Inmate Telephone System (ITS) and Inspire® tablets have the capability to handle inmate medical and appointment requests through an interactive voice response (IVR) Sick Call feature. GTL was the first company to introduce a sick call application over a decade ago.
GTL's ITS allows inmates to place their sick call requests by using any available GTL inmate telephone or Inspire tablet. The system utilizes the same phone or tablet that inmates use to place, helping facilities avoid unnecessary additional devices and paperwork.
"The fact that this functionality is built into our patented platform makes the GTL inmate telephone system a more powerful tool for both inmates and correctional facility staff," said Brian Peters, GTL Vice President, Facility Product Management. "Correctional facilities can eliminate paperwork and reduce the resource hours involved in the medical sick call process by using GTL's Sick Call feature, alleviating the strain put on officers."
Sick Call is one of GTL's Inmate Services, which are designed to allow facilities to automatically create accountability while saving time and money. Inmates can make sick calls, place requests, file grievances, read facility information, and order commissary items from the convenience of their Inspire wireless tablet or Flex® Link multi-service kiosk unit.
GTL's ITS and Sick Call feature are directly integrated with a facility's jail management system. Sick Call offers customizable features that allow a facility to have total control—defining up to nine different Sick Call / Appointment requests based on a facility's needs, offering instructions in multiple languages, and categorizing requests by Medical, Dental, and Mental Health, in addition to other options.
Once an inmate has answered the necessary questions based on their initial request type, the system will automatically transfer the data to the facility's jail management system, acting as an automated triage program for facility medical staff. "In addition, facilities can set up a number of business rules to ensure that Sick Call requests are processed effectively and efficiently," continued Mr. Peters.
