ROSWELL, Ga., April 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- GS Yuasa Lithium Power has been delivering lithium-ion solutions to its North American customers since 2006.
In 2006 GS Yuasa Lithium Power (GYLP) was established as a US subsidiary of its parent company GS Yuasa Corporation. GYLP's mission has been to bring GS Yuasa's lithium-ion products to the North American market. Over the last decade GYLP has contributed to the growth of GS Yuasa's aerospace business which has now delivered more than 2.3MWh of lithium-ion energy storage on-orbit establishing itself as a global leader in the satellite battery market.
Since starting business with just one employee in 2006, GYLP has grown to 27 employees and contractors; most with engineering or technical degrees. GYLP has also achieved ISO 9001:2008 and EN/JISQ/AS9100:2009 Revision C certification by Det Norske Veritas Certification demonstrating GYLP's commitment to the highest standards of quality in all of our business processes. To support its business growth GYLP relocated its headquarters in 2010 allowing it to expand and enhance its design, testing and manufacturing operations. In addition to more office space, the new facility houses the equipment necessary to support space battery manufacturing and our customers' space qualification programs such as a clean room, cell and battery testers, thermal and vacuum chamber, shock and vibration test equipment, redundant safety and backup systems.
Through its dedication to quality and delivering world-class solutions to its customers GYLP has been able to establish itself and a leader in the aerospace market for North America. Some highlights of GYLP's successes include:
- Successfully supported more than 30 U.S. space cell/battery procurement programs.
- Contract award from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) satellites.
- Contract award from Orbital Sciences Corporation's for the Cygnus ™ space vehicle.
- Contract award from Aerojet Rocketdyne to provide lithium-ion battery cells to be used on the International Space Station (ISS).
"GYLP is very pleased to be celebrating our 10 year anniversary. I recognize and appreciate that our success would not be possible without the support of our customers and suppliers," said Bill Moll, President of GYLP. "The keys to our successes have been GS Yuasa's world-class lithium-ion technology and the dedication and focus to serving our customers on a daily basis. As we enter our second decade GYLP plans to expand on our existing aerospace successes and leverage our parent company's lithium-ion manufacturing capabilities to enter other new markets."
