GS Battery (USA) Inc. Hosts the ECO R Power System Appreciation Luncheon
ROSWELL, Ga., Sept. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- GS Battery (USA) Inc., hosted a stakeholder appreciation luncheon at the Aperture Center located at Mesa del Sol, a community in Albuquerque, NM, to commemorate the successful demonstration of the Department of Energy's (DOE) first American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) earmarked photovoltaic system with storage for a commercial application in the United States.
The ECO R Power System is composed of an inverter power conditioning unit which charges the ECO R model SLC 70-4 batteries, manufactured by GS Yuasa Power Supply. The ECO R Power System was designed, installed and commissioned by GS Battery (USA) Inc., at the site.
The ECO R Power System, turned on in July 2011, demonstrates the value of time shifting in a renewable energy application by using solar panels to generate energy during the day, then storing the energy in batteries for consumption during peak usage times later in the day. Savings in electricity due to the ECO R Power System are approximately $6,000 a year. The Mesa del Sol project has 17 kW of photo-voltaic generating capacity and 20 kW/Hr of storage capacity. Future plans include combining inverter input/output with PQube in LabView, collecting data on PV Firming & Time Use Energy Management and developing a web site to view data on line.
"We are very proud to be associated with this industry leading project," said Vince Pusateri, Senior Director of Business Development for GS Battery. "GS Battery, and our parent, GS Yuasa Corporation, have many years of experience with renewable energy systems."
Stakeholders involved in this project include Forest City Developers (the master developer for Mesa del Sol) Sandia National Labs, the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico, the US Department of Energy, Public Utility of New Mexico (PNM), GS Yuasa Power Supply and GS Battery (USA) Inc.
