Growth and Commitment to Care spur Geisinger's recruitment campaign to hire 1,500 employees
DANVILLE, Pa., Sept. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following a decade of unprecedented growth and a commitment to providing specialty care to patients close to home, Geisinger Health System - viewed as a national model in providing both high-quality and cost-effective medical care - has launched a nationwide recruitment effort to hire more than 1,500 physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses and support staff.
"Caring for more than 3 million patients every year takes a team," said Julene Campion, vice president of talent management at Geisinger, a physician-led, integrated health system. "Every day, our 30,000 employees strive to improve that care. This responsibility has motivated Geisinger to push the boundaries of geography and healthcare innovation, grow its medical specialty and subspecialty offerings, and recruit the best and the brightest for more than 1,500 critical healthcare positions to better care for our patients in the communities we serve."
The 1,500 positions – a combination of new and replacement openings – span the entire health system and include clinical and office locations in Harrisburg, the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area, the State College region, Lewistown, Shamokin, Bloomsburg and Danville. In addition, the health system has filled 444 new positions since July 1, 2016.
Geisinger's recruitment efforts are bolstered by its dedication to quality and service, innovative use of the electronic health record and pioneering unique care models such as ProvenExperience, ProvenHealth Navigator and ProvenCare. Geisinger is also leading the nation in cutting-edge research in the realm of genomics. The health system's MyCode Community Health Initiative currently has enrolled more than 110,000 participants, combining Precision Medicine with Geisinger's long-established population health efforts.
In addition, Geisinger is committed to medical education and as a teaching hospital, trains more than 400 residents and fellows each year. Geisinger is also unique in that it provides a health insurance product – Geisinger Health Plan – that currently has more than 551,000 members enrolled.
In the last decade, Geisinger has grown from two to 12 hospitals, expanded its service area from 30 to 45 counties, including southern New Jersey, and nearly tripled its number of employees. Geisinger also leverages an estimated $8.9 billion impact on the Pennsylvania economy.
A national expert on improving the patient experience, Geisinger President and CEO David T. Feinberg, M.D., MBA, who is consistently named to the top 10 of Modern Healthcare's list of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders, recently launched ProvenExperience, a radical program that offers refunds to patients whose expectations weren't met based on kindness and compassion.
"We're striving for the perfect patient experience, every time for every patient," Campion said. "While Geisinger is evolving to become even more patient-focused, we have a long-standing commitment to medical education, research and community service."
Geisinger, named to the Becker's Hospital Review "100 Best Places to Work in Health Care" and the American Hospital Association's Health Forum's "Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems" list, offers a highly competitive benefits package.
"Geisinger employees drive everything that we do — and as a result, we invest in our workforce through competitive salaries, benefits, training and education to the tune of nearly $1.9 billion a year," Campion said. "Geisinger has immediate need for physicians, advanced practitioners and nurses to join our team and to continue providing our patients with safe, compassionate, accessible and easy-to-understand care."
Geisinger is also seeking candidates for all levels of employment, including administration, clerical, environmental services, food services, laboratory services, information technology, marketing, occupational therapy, pharmacy and research. In the past year, Dr. Feinberg has also instituted a $10 minimum wage across the health system.
