CLEVELAND, Dec. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In the Outdoor Kitchens study from Freedonia Group, sales of prefabricated outdoor kitchen islands are forecasted to increase 4.0% per year to $100 million in 2022. Gains will be driven by:
- homeowners' growing interest in building outdoor kitchens using prefabricated islands instead of site-built types
- continued desire to add new elements to existing outdoor kitchens, which will typically require installing one or more additional islands
- increasing availability of prefabricated islands as suppliers expand product offerings to include wide-ranging styles and configurations
According to analyst Matt Breuer, "Prefabricated islands continue to gain popularity because they simplify the process of installing an outdoor kitchen compared to site-built islands made from scratch." Because these islands are entirely or partially pre-built, they streamline some of the steps in the process, including:
- design decisions, many of which are made by the manufacturers of a prefabricated product
- purchase, since there are fewer pieces to order
- installation, since there are fewer pieces to install
In addition, modular island systems can reduce the upfront cost of installing a basic outdoor kitchen, further encouraging new installations. Homeowners can purchase just one or two modules according to their needs and budget, and if they later decide that they want and can afford a more extensive outdoor kitchen they can then buy additional modules.
Prefabricated islands will continue to face some competition from site-built islands because the latter allow for greater customization of an outdoor kitchen's functional and aesthetic features. However, the simplicity of installing a prefabricated island will appeal to the many consumers and contractors for whom this is a new and unfamiliar project.
