Grove School Announces 2011 Expansion Plans
Leading therapeutic boarding and day school breaks ground on gym and maintenance building, nears completion of Welcome Center
MADISON, Conn., Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Grove School, a co-educational therapeutic day and boarding school for adolescents in grades 7-12, is actively expanding its facilities in order to serve more students and broaden its clinical, academic, and extracurricular offerings. The school is nearing completion of a new Welcome Center and recently broke ground on a 10,800-square-foot athletic facility and new maintenance building.
The new Welcome Center, which will open in late February, is a 550-square-foot cape style, mostly glass building featuring three large "bump out" bay windows and a cathedral ceiling. The building will house the Administrators on Duty, provide a small room for private meetings, and serve as the central hub for campus management and activity.
The state-of-the-art athletic facility, which will open mid-April, will feature a regulation size basketball court with bleachers on both sides, a staff office, restrooms and changing rooms, as well as storage and utility space. A 2,000-square-foot mezzanine will overlook the main floor and house fitness training equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, and bicycles.
Grove School's new maintenance building, also opening mid-April, will feature 3,000-square-feet on the ground floor and will house a large workshop, office and ample storage for maintenance equipment. The school has future plans to add an 1,800-square-foot second floor storage loft.
Richard Chorney, President and CEO commented, "I have spent countless hours designing new buildings as well as renovations of existing ones. My goal is to provide an environment that through art and design supports our therapeutic and educational goals, enhancing synesthesia, a blending of the senses, that stimulates the mind and contributes to the development of self esteem."
The addition of the Welcome Center, athletic facility and maintenance building are a continuation of Grove School's extensive program and facility expansion which began in 2010. During the last quarter of 2010 alone, the school welcomed three new clinicians to its team, added an art therapy program and opened the Alice Chorney Education Center.
Grove School's upcoming construction projects include an expansion and remodeling to the current Art Studio and renovations to some of the dormitories on campus.
