SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- "In Your Right Mind," a new weekly behavioral health radio program that features in-depth roundtable discussions of today's behavioral health headlines, premiered Sunday, Nov. 13 on Talk Radio 790 AM KABC. The goal of the show, produced in conjunction with Sovereign Health, is to raise public awareness and to get people talking about pertinent issues surrounding today's mental health and substance abuse epidemics. The hour-long program airs a new episode every Sunday at 5 p.m. PST. The inaugural show focused on the lingering stigma of mental illness and how it affects the ability of millions of Americans to find and receive appropriate treatment. "In Your Right Mind" is co-hosted by Program Producer Kristina Kuestner and Dr. Tonmoy Sharma, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sovereign Health, who provides in-depth medical and clinical expertise.
"In Your Right Mind" has an accompanying website, www.InYourRightMind.com. The website features in-depth Q&A interviews from guest speakers from each week's broadcast. In addition, the website includes "Talk to Your Right Mind," a message board listeners can use to send comments about the program, ask questions or recommend topics for future broadcasts.
"At a time when mental health and substance abuse disorders are at epidemic levels, Americans know very little about behavioral health," said Dr. Sharma. "The goal of 'In Your Right Mind' is that each show will bring about greater awareness regarding mental health disorders and help listeners recognize potential mental health issues with friends and family members. With this greater awareness, 'In Your Right Mind' seeks to help listeners identify appropriate treatment programs for these brain diseases."
This week's installment of "In Your Right Mind," "4 Personality Traits = Addiction," will air on Nov. 20 at a special time: 2 to 3 p.m. PST on 790 AM KABC in Los Angeles. The show will focus on the relationship between personality traits and addiction in adolescents. The panelists will explore how certain personality traits make kids more at risk of addiction and they'll explain how other factors may be included in this observation. Guest speakers include writer/recovering addict Maia Szalavitz, addiction therapist Dawn Maxwell, adolescence researcher Dr. Natalie Castellanos-Ryan, addiction psychologist Dr. Blair Mor and Barbara Theodosiou, the founder of the international group The Addict's Mom (TAM).
In subsequent weeks, "In Your Right Mind" will be broadcast in its usual time slot: 5 to 6 p.m. PST and will cover the following topics:
Sunday, Nov. 27 – "Distorted Disorders" explores the cost of pursuing perfection. The panel asks, "What is the cost of perfection?" From breaking down disordered eating and eating disorders to body dysmorphia, experts from the eating disorder field share insight on the physical and psychological impacts of these distorted disorders.
Sunday, Dec. 4 – "NIMBY" (Not In My Backyard) explores the explosive community protest movement driven by residents who oppose having treatment facilities and sober living residences within their city.
