Ground Labs Demonstrates Reduced Credit Card Data Theft at MasterCard Global Risk Management Conference
DUBLIN, Ireland, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- At the end of this month, payments and data security professionals will convene for the European leg of the MasterCard Global Risk Management Conference to discuss the latest strategies to protect customer cardholder data and meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).
A 2014 Ponemon Institute study recently reported the average cost per compromised credit card record in 2013 has reached £89, up 7% from 2012. This evidence combined with harsher data protection non-compliance fines and penalties has put many organisations on notice and created additional pressure on business stakeholders to address these evolving risks.
The latest event in the MasterCard Global Risk Management Conference series is where industry stakeholders will gather to address those very risks. This year's European event held in Dublin, Ireland, aims to educate and encourage sharing of knowledge on the best practices for reducing the risk of payment card fraud.
Ground Labs will be sponsoring the conference as well as appearing in its vendor showcase. Live Demonstrations will be provided of its Card Recon, Enterprise Recon and Data Recon sensitive data discovery tools, which were developed in line with the PCI DSS requirements.
The PCI DSS is a necessarily-strict set of guidelines for merchants regarding the processing and usage of stored cardholder data. The security standard stresses the importance of safely storing sensitive data, the very payload hackers are breaching computer systems to steal.
Ground Labs' tools comb entire computer systems for sensitive data using complex algorithms. If any data is found, remediation options are presented to users, who can choose to mask, encrypt, delete or quarantine the information, in compliance with the PCI DSS.
"New data breach threats are emerging every day, and hackers are increasingly using new forms of malware that are purpose designed to steal credit card data," warned Stephen Cavey, the Director of Corporate Development for Ground Labs. "There is a constant war being waged between hackers and those trying to keep their sensitive information safe, and if the recent big data breaches are anything to go by, the good guys are losing."
"Events such as these offer a great way to interact with other industry professionals and learn the latest threat vectors being used by the hacking community. It also offers an opportunity to demonstrate why data discovery is an essential first step towards not only becoming PCI compliance, but also reducing the risk of falling victim to a data breach."
The European leg of the MasterCard Academy of Risk Management will be held on September 29th through to October 2nd at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin.
