Visionary Sacramento-based bike & board parking company bolsters bike friendly commitment, continues rapid growth
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Ground Control Systems of Sacramento with a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Business (BFBSM) award, one of only 33 platinum awards bestowed on qualifying businesses throughout the nation.
With the League's announcement of 57 new and renewing BFBs today, Ground Control Systems joins a cutting-edge group of 1,232 US businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in 49 states and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace.
"The business community's investment in bicycling is playing a central role in making the country a safer, happier, and more sustainable place to live and work," said Amelia Neptune, League Bicycle Friendly Business Program Manager. "We applaud this new round of businesses, including Ground Control Systems, for leading the charge in creating a bicycle-friendly America for everyone."
Ground Control Systems encourages bicycling as an easy, accessible option for transportation and provides amenities such as its own secure, high-density Varsity Bike Docks for parking, U-Locks for the best security, shower facilities on-site, as well as incentives such as time off for participating in the League of American Bicyclists' annual Bike to Work Day.
Greg Bauer, chief executive officer for Ground Control Systems (formerly Park A Bike), said, "As bike parking solution experts, we are highly motivated to 'walk our talk' by providing a comprehensive approach to bicycle friendliness for our employees and our customers alike. Being recognized in the top three percent of bicycle friendly businesses by the League of American Bicyclists is a significant honor that fits our mission and culture to a 'T'."
Ground Control Systems, one of Sacramento's fastest growing companies for 5 years running, has its bicycle and board parking products and systems on more than 1000 universities, high and middle schools, businesses and cities throughout the US. The company's commitment to bicycle friendliness goes beyond a business philosophy. Earlier this summer, Ground Control Systems underwrote and produced a video in cooperation with the League documenting the bicycle friendly journey of the University of California, Davis, to encourage bicycle friendly initiatives among the nation's universities. UC Davis is a Bicycle Friendly University and a Bicycle Friendly Business.
Moving forward, Ground Control Systems will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. When employees bike, great things happen: carbon footprints are decreased, health improves and health care costs decrease, and a fun, positive work environment is created.
