PITTSBURGH, Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers (NKRC), the Ohio division of Gateway Rehab, today broke ground on a new 12-bed, recovery-supportive housing unit for women located adjacent to its main campus in Youngstown.
Named in honor of doctors Pugh, Cinelli, Wang and Gerberry, the recovery house was made possible through a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and contributions from the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation, and an anonymous donor.
"NKRC appreciates and is grateful to all those who have made this opportunity possible," said Carolyn Givens, executive vice president of the Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers. "Every day we hear about the tragic devastation the drug addiction epidemic is causing individuals and families in Ohio, as well as our own community. The Pugh, Cinelli, Wang and Gerberry House demonstrates that, in the face of adversity, the generosity of the human spirit allows hope to rise."
The Pugh, Cinelli, Wang, and Gerberry House will be NKRC's fourth recovery house, will provide abstinence-based living arrangements, and will operate similarly to Emery House, Gelbman House and Doc's Place. Services that will be provided will include housing; 24-hour security; meals; a full day of treatment services at NKRC's main facility; community-building skills with other residents in the house; and recovery coaching to build resiliency and connection to the larger recovering community.
NKRC was the nation's first nonprofit addiction treatment facility of its kind. Since its inception in 1946 as the Youngstown Committee on Alcoholism, Inc., NKRC has provided a safe, secure place where those with substance use disorders in Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley can receive treatment. In 1999, NKRC became a wholly owned subsidiary of Gateway Rehab.
