Grindr Surpasses Three Million Users in 192 Countries
Pioneering Geo-Social Networking App Connects Millions of GLBT Members Globally
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Grindr, the premier all male geo-social network app announces that it has reached more than three million users in 192 countries, making it the largest all-male location-based social networking tool in the world. The Company attributes the success of the wildly popular app to its valued users, who are spreading the word to friends both online and in-person.
Since launching in March 2009, Grindr has accumulated users in every major U.S. city and in 192 countries across the globe, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Rwanda, Bhutan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Samoa, Sri Lanka and Yemen. In the United States, Grindr has amassed nearly one million users (814,200), with 60,600 of those in New York City, 32,500 in Los Angeles and 27,100 in San Francisco. Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom and Australia, more than 315,200 and 147,800 users, respectively, have joined the Grindr phenomenon.
"I'm grateful to our growing, engaged user-base that have helped spread the word about Grindr by blogging, tweeting and posting their success stories, which has positioned Grindr as the largest and most prevalent GLBT networking app the world over," says Joel Simkhai, Grindr's founder and CEO. "We acknowledge the tremendous help from our Grindr community, whose positive endorsements have helped us reach this milestone. It's especially rewarding to hear individual stories from within our Grindr community about how we've become the catalyst for meaningful connections among users. A lot of men have created long term relationships or life-long friendships through Grindr and others use it in more creative ways. For instance, a D.C. couple whose photographer backed out on them on their wedding day placed a 'shutterbug plea' to their friends on Grindr and, within minutes, the community helped them book a professional photographer."
On a daily basis, Grindr counts some 668,400 active users who log on approximately eight times per day and spend an average of 1.5 hours each day using the app. On a weekly basis, the number of active users grows to 1.13 million and on a monthly basis that number climbs to nearly 1.95 million. Additionally, 8,000 new users continue to join the Grindr community every day.
Since launching on Apple iOS devices, Grindr versions have been created for the iPad, Android and select BlackBerry models. Moreover, an enhanced subscription-based app upgrade, Grindr Xtra, was introduced in June 2009.
