Gridsum Fosters Innovation with Successful Second Annual Hackathon
BEIJING, Sept. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The final contest of the Second Annual Gridsum Hackathon was successfully held in Beijing on Aug 28. 36 teams with 128 employees from 7 business departments took part in the Hackathon, from which 16 teams made it to the final. The "Interactive Advertising Budget and KPI Forecast and Analysis" project designed by a cross-functional team of employees from R&D and Sales Department won the first prize, followed by the "Task Booster" designed by a cross-functional team of employees from Emerging Business Department and R&D Department to increase business efficiency in second place, while "Recruiting Dissector" designed by a cross-functional team of employees from HR Department and R&D Department to improve recruitment efficiency was awarded third prize.
The word "hackathon" is coined from "hack" and "marathon", which is an event encouraging fast-paced technology innovation rather than hacker attacks. In addition to evaluating the value of the projects from the technology or business perspectives, Gridsum's Hackathon is unique in that it also takes the feasibility of the projects into consideration. Eight projects including "Big Data Comparison of Brand Identities" which stood out from the First Hackathon held in 2015 have been successfully launched or are in the process of being launched. Kicked off in July this year, the Second Gridsum Hackathon attracted teams from different business departments from across the country, who perfectly demonstrated Gridsum's DNA of innovation with their extraordinary display of creativity, persistence and teamwork.
Gridsum established a culture of hacking for growth since its early stage with a unique approach of "problem identification, agile innovation, and fast implementation". Even when heat map was new and not widely adopted, Gridsum had already come up with an innovative idea of combining heat map with interactive multidimensional drill-down analysis and developed the world's first heat map capable of interactive data analysis, helping customers identify and solve problems in user experience, channel conversion, process optimization, and traffic fraud detection.
"The ability to perform interactive data mining with multidimensional drill-downs powered by Gridsum's proprietary correlation analysis and real time complex event processing engines are Gridsum's unique advantages and is deeply rooted in our DNA", said Guosheng Qi, CEO of Gridsum. Leveraging its powerful advantages in data analysis and with continuous innovation, Gridsum now offers over 30 big-data products and has over 1,200 patents and patent applications.
Speed is all that matters in competing in the Internet era. Being one step behind may mean missing a huge market opportunity. "Gridsum's business is currently experiencing rapid growth, so we never stopped our technology development and innovation so as to meet demands of business development", said John Liu, CTO of Gridsum, "In this process, we strive to create value with innovation, see things from a practical point of view, and address the challenges in work and life with better, faster, and more accurate solutions".
Gridsum held the Hackathon with the aim to build a culture of innovation within the company, encourage employees to explore innovative approaches to improving work efficiency for individuals, teams, business departments and the whole company, so as to create new value for the company and provide customers with better products and services.
As early as when Gridsum was founded, the company foresaw the explosive growth of data along with the development of Internet, which is why the company named itself "GRIDSUM": "Grid (Grid Computing)" plus "Sum". As a technology-driven company which focuses on big data, Gridsum is one of State Intellectual Property Office's "Zhongguancun Patent Examination Practice Bases", and one of the first to be recognized as "Leading Intellectual Property Company in Zhongguancun". With its strong competitive advantages in technology innovation, Gridsum serves organizations from a variety of vertical industries, including government and judicial departments, TV stations (new media), finance, e-commerce, travel, consumer, automotive.
