FOSTER CITY, Calif., April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GridGain™ Systems (Gridgain.com), provider of the leading open source In-Memory Computing (IMC) Platform , today announced that Gartner has recognized it in its "Cool Vendors in In-Memory Computing Technologies, 2014" report.

"We believe that the increased attention given to In-Memory-Computing signifies the growing role that IMC is playing across all industries," said Abe Kleinfeld, CEO, GridGain. "Companies today need to consider an in-memory computing architecture to address the hyper-scale demands of Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing."
In contrast to traditional disk-based processing, IMC enables data to be stored in RAM across a cluster of computers. By moving data from disk to RAM (memory), processing speed improves by orders of magnitude. The falling cost of RAM has made the economics of in-memory computing broadly accessible to organizations of all sizes -- GridGain recently demonstrated one billion financial transactions per second on just $25,000 of commodity hardware, using its In-Memory Data Grid software.
The Gartner report1 states: "IMC technologies support the agility and large-scale, fast data processing needed to succeed in the digital era. Application architecture leaders should master IMC architectures and technologies, or run the risk of undermining their organizations' ability to leverage digital business opportunities."
On March 3, 2014 GridGain released its industry leading In-Memory Computing Platform, which includes the industry's first in-memory accelerator for Hadoop, through an Apache 2.0 open source license, making IMC the most effective, economical way to achieve previously unimaginable performance with commodity hardware. GridGain's open source, end-to-end in-memory computing platform provides immediate, unhindered freedom to develop with the most mature, complete and tested in-memory computing platform on the market. The report1 asserts that GridGain's features, functionality and delivery model make it "...one of the few IMC open-source technologies available and the only one, so far, providing such a rich set of functionality."
