GreenSource Wins Awards from the Society of Publication Designers
NEW YORK, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Construction's GreenSource magazine has received a silver medal in the 46th Annual Society of Publication Designers (SPD) Awards Competition in the illustration category for its "Digging for Dollars" piece from the September/October 2010 issue. GreenSource also received a merit award in the design category for "Some Like It Radiant," featured in the July/August 2010 issue.
With Francesca Messina as creative director, Ted Keller as art director, and Gerard DuBois as illustrator, "Digging for Dollars" explores the possibilities of building green at an affordable and profitable scale with tax deductions and credits to grants. In "Some Like it Radiant," Illustrator Peter Grundy depicted the benefits of the long-overlooked technology for radiant heating and cooling. In both of these articles, illustration and design were essential to representing the specifics of the subject matter.
Now in its 46th year, SPD's design competition assessed more than 6,000 submissions to find the best examples of design, photography, and illustration excellence in both print and digital platforms. Winners will be included in exhibitions on SPD.org and in the SPD PUB 46 Annual book, a must-read for magazine design professionals. Winners were also honored at an awards gala on May 13 in NYC.
"This is a true honor for GreenSource magazine," said Francesca Messina, senior group art director, McGraw-Hill Construction. "The SPD awards are one of the industry's most prestigious competitions judged by a panel of top industry professionals. We held our own in a very competitive consumer magazine awards competition, and I am proud of the work of our talented design team."
