Greenfield Man Wins JW Marriott Indianapolis Photo Contest
Gary Cochard beat the competition to take the best photo of the JW Marriott Indianapolis facade featuring the Lombardi Trophy
MERRILLVILLE, Ind., Feb. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- While the Lombardi Trophy went home with the New York Giants Sunday, photos of the giant Lombardi Trophy that graced the side of the JW Marriott Indianapolis went home with hundreds of thousands of football fans.
Recognizing the impact the image had on the week's festivities and on the city's skyline, the hotel created a photo contest to see who could take the best photo of what became one of the week's most iconic images. The contest winner received a free dinner and night's stay at the hotel.
Gary Cochard, 49, of Greenfield, beat 137 other entries to win the contest with his photo of the hotel lit up at night, with traffic streaming by.
"I used a long exposure to get the headlights and taillights streaking," Cochard said. "It took about 30 seconds to capture."
Scott Blalock, the general manager of the JW Marriott Indianapolis, said the hotel was pleased to see so much pride from Indiana residents for the building, and the contest provided the opportunity to thank them for their support.
"Our local residents, as well as out of town visitors, were taking incredible photos, and we wanted to share them with others through our Facebook page," Blalock said.
Cochard said he hasn't had a chance to stay in the hotel yet, which just opened in February 2011. He said he runs in the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon each year, and would like to use his free night the night before the May 5 race.
"I thought the JW Marriott Indianapolis was the most unique, and impressive, thing that I saw all week," Cochard said. "The whole city made me proud to live in central Indiana, and filled my memory cards with lots of great photos."
