PALO ALTO, Calif., June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BloomBoard, the leading educator-focused professional development platform, and Greene County Schools, have partnered to provide the district's more than 550 educators with BloomBoard's integrated competency-based professional learning program, supported by micro-credentials.
The program will kick off with a core group of "learning leaders" from Greene County Schools, who will form and lead distinct professional learning communities (PLCs) based on their teachers' professional development needs. PLCs will be hosted through the BloomBoard platform where educators can collaborate with one another through a private, virtual meeting space. In addition, educators will have access to high-quality resource collections vetted and curated by expert educators from the field. Collections are designed to support the individual learning needs of each teacher by helping them understand and apply information about a specific problem of practice.
"We selected BloomBoard because of its unique ability to support our shift to a teacher-centered, teacher-driven model of professional development," said Dr. Kristi Wallin, Curriculum Supervisor at Greene County Schools. "We are impressed with the quality of content available through BloomBoard, as well as the diverse library of micro-credentials that help teachers align their interests with their personal growth, and put them in control of their professional learning."
In partnership with Digital Promise, the thought-leader in competency-based educator development, BloomBoard offers a library of over 150 micro-credentials which focus on a variety of skills such as data literacy, teacher leadership, and deeper learning. As educators in Greene County Schools apply their learning in their practice, they will be able to prove competence and earn micro-credentials through the BloomBoard platform.
BloomBoard's CEO and co-founder, Jason Lange, said, "Research shows that we learn best by doing, and a competency-based professional development model not only facilitates this type of rich learning, but ensures that new skills extend to classroom practice. We're thrilled to be partnering with Greene County Schools, which is an inspiring example of a district making the shift to a professional learning model that trusts and empowers educators to take ownership of their own growth."
