Greenberg Traurig's Mukasey Inducted as American College of Trial Lawyers Fellow
NEW YORK, March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Marc L. Mukasey, Global Co-Chair of the White Collar Criminal Defense Practice at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The induction ceremony at which Mukasey became a Fellow took place at the 2016 Spring Meeting in Maui, Hawaii.
According to the College, membership is an invitation-only fellowship of exceptional trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds. The organization said it thoroughly investigates each nominee. Only those who have demonstrated the very highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism, and collegiality are selected for membership, the organization said. Although there are currently more than 5,700 Fellows across the U.S. and Canada, membership never exceeds more than one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province.
A former supervisory federal prosecutor and Securities Exchange Commission enforcement attorney, Mukasey defends corporations and executives facing allegations of securities fraud, FCPA violations, FIRREA, antitrust violations, environmental crimes, money laundering, bribery, mail/wire fraud, tax offenses, and other business crimes. A renowned trial lawyer, Mukasey has tried an array of criminal cases and has also convinced prosecutors, behind the scenes, to abandon investigations before charges were filed. Mukasey is Chambers & Partners rated and was named by Law360 as an MVP of the Year in the White Collar category in 2013 and 2014, and a 2015 Trailblazer in the area of White Collar Crime by The National Law Journal.
Mukasey recently was lead trial counsel for an executive in the Countrywide mortgage fraud trial and for a municipal bond trader in a criminal antitrust trial. He has also handled high-profile criminal cases including the Deepwater Horizon blowout, the Major League Baseball steroid investigations, and he obtained immunity for his client in the largest insider trading case in history.
Prior to entering private practice, Mukasey served for eight years in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where he rose to become a Unit Chief and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney. Twice he received the Justice Department's award for Superior Performance by an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Mukasey joins the ranks of distinguished Greenberg Traurig colleagues who are also Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, including: Barry Richard, a shareholder in the Litigation Practice; Hilarie Bass, co-president of Greenberg Traurig and president-elect of the American Bar Association; Mark Bideau, managing shareholder of the West Palm Beach and Boca Raton offices; and James Leahy, chair of the firm's Energy Litigation Practice.
