Greenberg Traurig Will Co-Sponsor American Bar Association's Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Homeland Security Law Institute: Shareholder Joe D. Whitley Chairs Program
ATLANTA, March 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenberg Traurig, LLP will co-sponsor the American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice Seventh Annual Homeland Security Law Institute, which takes place on March 22-23, 2012 at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C. Joe D. Whitley, Shareholder and Chair of the Greenberg Traurig Atlanta office White Collar Practice and Vice Chair of the ABA's Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section, will serve as Program Chair of the conference.
Whitley, together with the ABA, founded the Institute shortly after his departure from public service. The ABA has sponsored the Homeland Security Law Institute for the past six years and it has become the premier conference for homeland security law practitioners. Whitley is the former and first General Counsel to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a twice-appointed U.S. Attorney. Whitley's national and international legal experience includes white collar criminal matters and regulatory enforcement, U.S. export controls and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance.
Keynote speakers for the program include former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, former DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff, former CIA Director General Michael Hayden, Chief Diplomatic Officer to the DHS the Honorable Alan Bersin and Jim Carafano from The Heritage Foundation. On the second day of the Institute, Governor Frank Keating, former Governor of Oklahoma and current President of the American Banker's Association, will make a closing keynote address on "Protecting America's Cities from a Terrorist Attack: Evaluating the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Threat."
Topics featured during the two-day program include border protection, current law and policy issues within homeland security, domestic threats and radicalization, cargo and supply chain security, compliance issues facing government contractors, information sharing, civil litigation and international issues concerning the FCPA and export control.
