NEW YORK, Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has launched EB-5 Insights: Where Government Policies and Business Realities Converge (www.eb5insights.com), a blog that addresses the broad range of challenges and opportunities presented by the EB-5 visa program created by the Immigration Act of 1990 and targeting foreign investment in U.S. job creation.
With this visa, foreign nationals who invest in the United States can obtain a green residency card. To obtain an EB-5 visa, individuals must invest one million dollars (or at minimum $500,000 in a targeted employment area), to create or preserve at least 10 jobs for U.S. workers. Under the program, foreign nationals may invest in a pre-approved Regional Center involved economic growth promotion.
The blog will look at the immigration, tax and securities compliance issues integral to creating and maintaining successful Regional Centers and projects.
"Entrepreneurs, developers and investors need to understand the options available to them when developing new projects that might qualify for EB-5 investment through either new or existing Regional Centers," says Kate Kalmykov, an attorney in Greenberg Traurig's Business Immigration Practice in New York. "EB-5 Insights is a forum for news and developments affecting the EB-5 program - we discuss what the Regional Centers, USCIS and other agencies are doing and what it means to current and potential EB-5 participants."
The EB-5 program offers foreign national investor-entrepreneurs and their qualifying dependents an opportunity to live and work permanently in the U.S. without the wait-list quotas associated with many of the other immigrant visa categories and with geographical and employment mobility not tied to a specific employer.
"The EB-5 Insights blog is an excellent channel for leveraging the firm's intellectual capital and capabilities, and for engaging in a conversation with clients, the public and the media," says Laura Foote Reiff, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig's Business Immigration Group.
Ranked among the top immigration practices in the U.S. by Chambers Global Guide to Lawyers, Greenberg Traurig's Business Immigration & Compliance Group works with clients to establish Regional Centers from start to finish. The firm represents businesses, organizations, and individuals around the world on a wide range of EB-5 related matters.
