Greenbelt-EcoPAS Alliance Ferments Into Performance Excellence
PASO ROBLES, Calif., Oct. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The EcoPAS PAS-100 (Passive Alcohol System), manufactured by Greenbelt Resources Corporation (OTC: GRCO), has once again exceeded performance expectations. The concept was the brainchild of EcoPAS, LLC and the company enlisted Greenbelt to fabricate a proprietary smart condenser system to capture escaping alcohol vapor produced during winery fermentation, a vapor that contributes to the formation of smog, an ongoing challenge in many parts of California.
More than 80 percent of the wine produced in the United States is made in California. EcoPAS set out to create an affordable and effective system to capture both ethanol (alcohol) vapor, as well as other volatile aromatics, which can be retained to improve the original wine, or sold separately as an aromatic spirit (think grape vodka). Today the EcoPAS PAS-100 system has been designated an Achieved in Practice Best Available Control Technology and is listed in the California Air Resources Board BACT Clearing House.
"EcoPAS is becoming very attractive to winemakers as sustainability and air-quality concerns continue to rise," says EcoPAS CEO Patrick Thompson. "With our technology, winemakers are able to reduce emissions at the lowest possible cost by turning something previously seen as waste into a new revenue stream."
As more clients engage in "capture contracts" with EcoPAS, Greenbelt CEO Darren Eng anticipates a growing demand for a wide range of PAS systems; thus a growing demand for Greenbelt's fabrication services as well as their waste-to-energy systems.
"I also am convinced there will be an increasing demand for certain other feedstocks captured by the PAS systems that can be utilized in Greenbelt's waste-to-energy systems," says Eng. "We're in the process of raising capital for our Paso Robles ECOsystem project (PRECO) and currently engaged in feedstock testing of multiple wastes generated in the winemaking process for PRECO use. Once the system is operational, we'll be engaging wineries with PAS systems to become feedstock suppliers."
In other news, Greenbelt is performing feedstock testing with Barrelhouse Brewery and Central Coast Wine Services to test waste steams produced by brewing and winemaking as possible PRECO feedstocks. Other testing is also being performed on Greenbelt's bioethanol under consideration by two companies in the cannabis industry, Puration, Inc. and NCM Biotech, Inc. for use in their ethanol extraction processes.
