Greatland Announces Second Year of Record Increases in 1099 and W-2 Forms, Electronic Filing
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Greatland, one of the country's leading providers of W-2 and 1099 products, today released its 2010 tax year reporting statistics, noting substantial increases in the use of electronic filing products and online filing technology, compared to 2009.
Companywide, Greatland and its subsidiaries recorded a 7.8% increase in customers purchasing W-2 and 1099 products in 2010, including paper wage and income reporting forms and related filing software. The company also saw a 10.2% increase in total new customers (including electronic filing) over the previous year.
Most notable was the continued growth and preference for electronic filing over paper-based filing. In 2010, Greatland reported more than 1.9 million forms filed electronically through Greatland's web-based electronic filing subsidiaries – primarily speedEfiler.com and FileTaxes.com – a 11% increase over the previous year. Greatland also saw a 24% increase in total electronic filing users from 2009. The company noted this continues to reflect the transition by businesses toward filing wage and income forms and taxes electronically.
Greatland reported the most filed form in 2010 continues to be the 1099-MISC, for which the company saw filings increase by 14% from the previous year. One of the most "versatile" tax forms, a 1099-MISC is the form is used to report miscellaneous income of more than $600 a year, such as income earned as a contract or freelance worker, or royalties, commissions and rental income. Payments for prizes, awards, attorney fees, and other non-employee reimbursements (mileage, automobile, etc.) may also be reported on this form.
"I am pleased to report that 2010 proved to be another record year for Greatland, in terms of new customers served and overall sales of electronic filing products," said Bob Nault, Greatland's CEO."
Nault added: "We will continue to drive development in the areas of projected growth – namely electronic filing products and services. Furthermore, we continue to focus on leveraging both our reputation for deep industry knowledge and our superior products for small businesses to retain and grow new customers."
